Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers
President’s Welcome Note

As President of the Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers for 2011, I would like to welcome you to this year’s conference.

2011 has continued to be a very challenging environment from a corporate treasury perspective. The potential fallout from sovereign risk issues throughout the year has been to the forefront of the general agenda. In addition, the financial crisis of the last few years has changed the landscape of domestic and international banking to a very large extent and the changing regulatory environment which is emerging will impact all Treasurers in one way or another as we move forward. The importance of strong management of all treasury related risks has therefore remained to the forefront of the minds of Board members, CEOs and CFOs – and this has meant that treasurers remain in the limelight.

While each company’s position in this changing environment will be unique, it is clear that it is worthwhile taking time out from the treadmill to examine the ‘big picture’ and this year’s conference provides yet another excellent opportunity to do this.

Addressing many of the key issues facing treasurers today, expert speakers will provide insights on areas including changing accounting, tax and regulatory regimes, developments in cash management practices and debt financing (refinancing) strategies. It also provides treasurers with an excellent opportunity to network with key people in the treasury sector – an essential tool in resolving common issues.

Throughout the day, industry experts will deliver their knowledge, expertise and opinions on current issues facing treasurers and we invite you to stay with us to the end of the day when a panel of Treasurers will review what has been presented and offer “their” opinions and “their” experience of these issues.  We invite you all to join in this debate with opportunities in advance of, and during, this session to submit questions on conference topics and any other treasury related challenges.

The day will wrap up with a presentation from Paul Rellis, Managing Director, Microsoft Ireland who will no doubt send us on our way reinvigorated for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Finally we do hope that you can join the conference drinks reception at the end of the day, browse the exhibitor stands and perhaps catch up with some old friends.

I hope you enjoy the conference.
